Chemical Engineering

The branch of Chemical engineering links the physical sciences (chemistry and physics) and life sciences (biology, microbiology and biochemistry) together with mathematics and economics to the processes that convert raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. Chemical engineering emerged upon the development of unit operations, a fundamental concept of the discipline chemical engineering. The branch involves the design of the unit operations for large scale manufacture. Chemical engineers now engage in the development and production of a diverse range of products like fabrics, adhesives and specialty chemicals. Today, the field has grown into diverse study areas such as biotechnology, nanotechnology and mineral processing. The biggest advantage that a Chemical Engineer possesses is their knowledge of chemistry in addition to other engineering disciplines. As a reason, their scientific and technical mastery is vast.

The 3 -year diploma program of the Department is dedicated to delivering technically proficient and ethically responsible engineers to the society. The Department of Chemical Engineering aims to be a center for excellence in research and higher education in order to address the needs of a phenomenally growing chemical industrial sector. The curriculum of Chemical Engineering in GPTC Kalamassery is of global standards with emphasis on the fundamentals covering the length and breadth of the area of Chemical Engineering.
